About Jordans

Jordans was founded in 1863 by Mr Richard Jordan, as a company registration and law stationery business operating from 123 Chancery Lane, London, in the very heart of London's legal district.

The very first Jordans book was published in 1869, just six years after the business was founded. The title was "The Joint Stock Companies Handbook". That title in an expanded form ultimately became "Gore-Browne on Companies" renamed after the famous lawyer who was its editor for many years. Gore-Browne is still one of the leading textbooks on English company law and it is now published in two loose-leaf volumes, with regular subscription based updates and online options. Along with a number of other Jordans "flagship" titles, it, has an unrivalled reputation for providing definitive commentary on all aspects of company law.

Herbert Jordan, the last Jordan family member involved in the business, noted for his lectures on legal topics, was also a greatly respected author. He wrote many of the early editions of Jordans classic titles. Many of those are still offered in modern editions by leading authors of this generation - such as "Reminders for Company Secretaries".

Today Jordan Publishing Limited is the UK's leading privately-owned law publisher. We publish under two imprints - Jordans and Family Law.
